My
theme is Islam which is a peaceful religion. Throughout this project, I’m going
to try to show people that being a Muslim is something very peaceful. I’m
trying to make the images strong and powerful. The photographers styles
that I really like are Hassan Hajjaj and Manal Al Dowayan because Hassan Hajjaj
uses bright dynamic colours and borders which illustrates the colourful and
cheerful personality of Muslims, therefore demonstrating that they are peaceful
and fun. I admire Manal al Dowayan's style where he uses objects to cover parts
of a woman's face, his images are black and white whereas I will be using a
similar style but using colour and more dramatic. I will try to experiment with
more techniques, texture and style e.g. using paints or other media on top of
in addition to my photographs.
In
my final piece I will try to portray a different image from the media and
expose the reality and will be showing two different images to explain this. It
will provide with the truth about women in Islam. The media’s image is going to
be of a Muslim woman wearing a veil showing the bars in between her eyes and
rope tied on her wrists, which conveys to us that a Muslim woman has no voice
and can’t be free. This style will be done in a similar manner to Manal Al-Dowayan;
it will be black and white using shocking, powerful, range of imagery. The peaceful
true, this image is going to be a Muslim woman wearing bright, dramatic and colourful
clothes with white feathers of peace thrown over her which are a global symbol
of peace. This style will be like Sara Shamsavari.
These
two images will display to people what the media has accomplished portraying Muslims
in a negative fashion and what the reality of being a Muslim women means.
